NOT THE BIG LOTTERY FUND! Please see below a letter sent from the P.C.C. to each member of St Andrew's in the summer of 2005, which should explain this initiative further:
Dear Brothers and Sisters Your P.C.C. has been waiting for the right moment to officially launch the Building Project Fund to enable the scheme to continue beyond Phase I which is now almost complete. We believe that this moment has now arrived. Apart from inviting you to sponsor a chair, the P.C.C. has not directly asked you to contribute to the Building Fund although it has been open for some time for (one off) gifts. Thank you for those already received. We are now ready to undertake the major building phase which will provide toilet and baby changing facilities, crèche, kitchen, vestry and meeting space, balcony and storage – all long overdue and very necessary for community buildings today. So here we go! We need at least £250,000 for this major phase to be undertaken. The P.C.C. has already begun to seek grant aid from many sources but we now need to make a concerted effort ourselves to swell the Building Fund if we are to start work, but NOT at the expense of our regular giving to the churches on-going mission and ministry. We will be offering you many ideas and opportunities to make the project a reality BUT here is the first – THE BIG POTTERY FUND! You have all heard of the Big Lottery Fund, well here is the St Andrew's answer in which every £1 given is certain to be donated to the Building Project. We are giving every St Andrew's member a Big Pottery Fund mug and we invite you to put into it each week £1 or multiples of £1 (the price of lottery tickets) as some might spend on the lottery, only in our scheme every pounds goes to the fund – there is no element of chance whatsoever – nothing is lost. It is a fun way of seeing the fund grow before your very eyes. Of course, we would like every member to take part, but if you are not able to join in, then please except the mug as a gift. If you know anyone else who might like to help in the scheme, please collect further mugs from the office for them, or if you attend St Andrews but are not on the electoral roll, do feel free to take part. When your mug is full, bring the contents to the Church Office and the money will be put into the Building Fund straight away. We do hope you will enjoy THE BIG POTTERY FUND as we begin this exciting project together. Every Blessing, Tony On behalf of the P.C.C. |
